2012 Southern Cross Challenge RESULTS

Queensland was well represented at the Southern Cross Challenge held in Christchurch, New Zealand last week.

Three Queensland teams competed - Queensland Heat and Queensland Maroon in the women’s division and a Queensland Open Men’s team.

All teams played well in the tough competition with Queensland Heat finishing a close fought second to the New Zealand White Sox Selection team and Queensland Maroon team finishing fouth. The Queensland Men finished in third position.

Jodie Bowering was rewarded for her achievements winning the Top Batter and Top Fielder Awards.

Queenslanders Make the Aussie Spirit Team

Two Queenslanders have been named in the 2012 Aussie Spirit Team and two as non-travelling reserves. The team will play at the ISF XIII Open Women's World Championship in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada from 13 – 22 July, 2012.

The team will also compete in the following events leading up to the World Championship:

27 June – 2 July: US World Cup of Softball VII, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
4 – 9 July: Canadian Open International Fastpitch Championship, Vancouver, Canada

Congratulations to Jodie Bowering (also named as Vice-Captain) and Melinda Weaver for their team selection and Jocelyn McCullum and Jade Wall for being named as reserves. Their selection follows great individual performances against Japan in the 7 Test Series played at Hawker International Softball Centre (ACT).

John Reid Shield Campaign & Aussie Squad Announcement

Congratulations to the Queensland Patriots team on their strong National Championship campaign. After finishing the round games in 4^th position, the Patriots defeated Victoria in the minor semi-final advancing to the Preliminary Final against WA where they were defeated 6 – 1.

Congratulations to Patriots members Bill Bailey, Andrew Blackshaw, Guy Covacin (subject to fitness), Shaun Goffer, Julian Jemmott and Nick Shailes on their selection in the Australian Open Men’s Squad March – December 2012.

The final team for the 2013 ISF XIII World Championship will be announced following the 2013 John Reid Shield being held 4 – 8 December 2012.
